Career day comes to the school and Greg watches in horror as Rowley talks to someone about nursing school. Her sons can do various jobs and tasks and earn "Mom Bucks" which will allow them to have money for purchasing miscellaneous items. Susan starts a program that she calls Mom Bucks. Chirag and Greg reconcile and renew their friendship. Gupta (Chirag's father) tells Susan about it. Chirag tells his father and when Chirag comes to Rowley's birthday party, Mr. He goes to the principal to complain, but the principal can't understand Chirag's English and gets the name wrong. Greg ends up getting the entire classroom in on it, but Chirag doesn't take it well. Greg likes him and decides to pull a welcome back to school prank on him. Despite Susan (Greg's mother) demanding that Rodrick type his own research paper, later that night Greg sees Frank typing it for him.Ĭhirag Gupta is a boy in Greg's class. Greg is disgusted and amazed by his brother Rodrick's ability to will his parents to do his bidding. On the bright side, Greg states, he received his first actual letter from Mamadou Montpierre, his new French pen pal. Greg isn't too fond of Manny either since Manny broke one of Greg's gaming consoles. Greg's father, Frank, takes Greg to the mall on Saturdays to escape Manny (the youngest) and diaper duty. School starts and Greg is assigned a pen pal in his French class. That summed up his summer, Greg writes in his journal. Greg didn't seem to hear what Rowley was saying and interrupted his friend to talk about his own life. Rowley returned from South America and was eager to tell Greg all about it. Greg's father took the summer to work on a Civil War replica in the laundry/furnace room and declared the entire space off limits to kids. But, Greg shares, Rodrick got away with it because of "the secret." Maybe if Greg were to find out some good dirt on Roderick, he'd be able to neutralize Rodrick's hold over him. The only person he had to hang out with was Roderick and that didn't go so well.ĭuring the summer, Greg's mother tried to get Greg and Rodrick to "bond" but Rodrick was too fond of shoving and pushing. Rowley went to South America for the summer so they did not spend any time together, which makes Greg sad. Now that school is about to start, Greg suddenly recalls with dread that at the end of school last year he had gotten the "cheese touch." He calms when he realizes that he passed the "cheese touch" on to Jeremy Pindle. He joined the swim team and enjoyed his summer break, with one exception. School is getting ready to start back for the year and Greg writes about how his summer has gone. I recommend this book to 6th graders and lower grades because above 6th is just too high and it’s too easy but 6th and below is much better.Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules by Jeff Kinney is the second book in the series and begins with Greg writing in his new journal. I like this book because it is funny and entertaining to readers. He would tell his parents things from a long time ago about Greg and his parents would actually believe Manny! One time Greg was making Manny laugh so hard that his mom was screaming at him saying “You could have killed HIM!” so I guess Rowley and Greg’s parents have something in common. Greg’s little brother Manny is always telling on Greg about something. Something always happens and Greg always gets the blame for it. Whenever they let Rowley go to Greg’s house, Rowley always gets sent home one way or another. They’re so overprotective about him and where he goes. He also wears a bunch of ridiculous outfits.Īdding on, his parents are kind of weird too. For example, he had a birthday party at a kids place and invited a bunch of 5 year olds. Greg is sticking with his all time best friend Rowley Jefferson. He is getting familiar with the school – with the good things and the bad things. It has a lot of things I bet a lot of people could relate to like drama, friends, family and much more. The book overall is made to make readers laugh and enjoy reading. It has a bunch of pictures and some funny parts. This book is about a middle schooler named Greg Heffley and his struggles throughout the school year.
